Hi Ted I have had problems with my heat exchangers on my detroits but I believe different than yours but maybe related, I used permatex radiator cleaner made for heavy duty and marine use my core flowed beautiful but i still had heat creep. The motors start out cool take 20 minutes to get to temp and then within 10 to 15 minutes they'd creep up to 200 degrees it was driving me mad what I found out is the remaining iron from the block had deposited iron oxide on my cores which stopped the heat sink properties of the cores they weren't transfering the heated water to the raw water side so I had to take them out and have them boiled and stripped of iron oxide am still waiting to install and all should be well. Where are you putting the silicone the rubber o rings that go over the end of the core should only have soap on it for instalation and the end cap should have no gaskets so that when tighened it squeezes the o rings. I was going to use silicone but my mechanic said I'm on my own if i do. Call me at 727-392-8793 so I can get a better picture of what's happenned to your exchangers. good luck Capt. Rik
