Low oil pressure on a warm engine is not a concern , GM even used the feature as a safty feature before allowing large air cond loads to be allowed to clutch in on GM coaches.

IF the oil pressure was low enough the engine "HAD" to be at the 400rpm idle , so clutching in a 60hp air cond was allowed.

For boats the low idle oil pressure has a problem.
Should the oil pressure get down to 4 or 5 psi at cruise RPM the engine could suffer damage.

Two solutions are easy,
first is a second owner switched oil pressure sensor that will alert at under 20 or 25PSI .

A 2 position switch , start or cruise would select the required sensor.

Far more complex is the instalation of a Murphy Gage .
These are mechanical gages with operator settable electric contacts , to alert of an out of range condition.

A complete set for engine & tranny is usually hooked to an alarm , but the better method is to install their Auto-Secure solenoid.

On a long cruise , many times the autopilot will have the helm , and the gages won't be observed by a trained observer for long times. (A Guest at the helm?) .

At these times the auto secure feature could save an engine or tranny.

WE use the first setup on inshore boats ,
the better (Murphy Gage setup) offshore.
