Here is what I wrote re props in 2001. Not a perfect match but talks to the issue:

"I noticed several recent questions about the speed of a 42' with different engine configurations.
I have a 1973 42' aft cabin, repowered in 1990 with Cummins 555's turbo's, 320HP. Reduction 1.98 to 1
I have somewhat unique props which are 24" X 20 props cut down to 22.5". I get what seems to
be excellent results. (20kph at 3000RPM; 16KPH at 2600rpm fully loaded with 500 gal fuel/200 gal. water etc.) I believe these Props came from Padden Creek marine, the old Uniflite yard. A well respected prop guy in Seattle (and his computer)said I would do much better with a full 24X20. I tried some and found they actually were a little worse. He was dumbfounded as to why.
I guess what I am saying is that gearing and props are as important as engines. I would ask these questions of the experts at Padden Creek."
